Kim Hankins, Yoga and Barre Teacher
They/Them
What brought you to yoga?
In 2009, I began practicing 26&2 at my local studio and fell in love with all things yoga. I equally love movement, meditation, pranayama, and vedic philosophy. Over the years I've explored many different styles, but at this time my primary practices are ghosh and kriya yoga.
What’s your yoga background and what are you most passionate about teaching?
I have always been passionate about the arts, having a full-time career in music and a background in dance. In 2016, I completed a Stott Pilates training on a whim because it was offered as an elective at my graduate school, and this ended up being a life-changing experience for me. I went on to complete my RYT200 in 2018 and began sharing anatomical information with musicians to avoid injury and perform with more ease. I've been a featured Yoga for Musicians teacher at a variety of festivals, conferences, and universities. I love learning and I'm constantly exploring different modalities and incorporating what I learn into everything I teach.
I really enjoy when my interests as a movement facilitator and musician overlap, like creating a barre playlist with satisfying transitions, or playing viola during savasana in all my flow classes! My yoga practice means so much to me, and as a teacher, my favorite thing is getting to witness others finding joy in their practice.
What would your students be surprised to know about you?
My main hobbies are geography and languages! I'm originally from Florida, and in undergrad I lived in the Foreign Language House on campus. Can you guess what languages I've studied? I love getting to know people and where they are from.
