Excited to use yoga to improve your run training?
Scroll to learn more about yoga for runners…
As runners, so many of us are looking for ways to support our bodies so we can run pain free for the long haul and continue to improve our running. How do I know this? Because I’m a runner too! Hi! I’m Shaelyn Delgado. I’m an avid runner and also the Executive Director at Yoga Pod Tucson. I’ve been teaching yoga for 14 years, and a lot of my teaching and training has centered around helping athletes use yoga to support their training. As a recreational athlete myself, I’ve also found so many benefits in using yoga to support my own athletic endeavors.
When I share this with athletes, they’re sometimes a little apprehensive. Modern yoga and the age of social media can portray yoga as a gymnastic-like sport, filled with pretzel-shaped positions that are only available to a small subset of bodies. But the beautiful thing is that yoga is SO much more than that! At Yoga Pod Tucson, we have a wide variety of classes (12+ class styles and 90+ classes each week!) all designed to be largely accessible and empower practitioners to feel balance in their bodies. For instance, if you just had an intense workout or race and want to optimize your recovery, join one of our RESTORE or YIN + Myofascial Release classes… if you’d like to build strength in the deep stabilizing muscles and hydrate your tissues, join a FLOW or FLOW + Myofascial Release class… and if you’re looking for some low impact strength training to cross train, join a FIT or BARRE class.
There are so many ways that thoughtfully integrating the right yoga practices into your routine can benefit your training.
Yoga can:
Help down regulate your nervous system and improve recovery time between workouts
Enhance your pre-run warm up by generating better circulation, activating key muscles and facilitating better neuromuscular communication
Support fewer injuries by building stronger stabilizing muscles and core support as well as keeping muscles hydrated and mobile
Play a role in cross training so the body is more resilient by training a wider range of movement patterns
Train the mind and nervous system to remain calm and focused on race day!
We’ve included a few videos below if you’re interested in learning more about how you can use yoga to support your run training.

FAQ
+ IS THERE A BEGINNER CLASS? WHAT IF I CAN'T DO EVERYTHING IN THE CLASS?
Our classes are accessible to every yogi – beginner to advanced. Classes provide many pose modifications to fit each person’s unique abilities. We encourage you to honor your body…each class will bring increased confidence, so go at your own pace and have fun!
+ WHAT CAN I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST CLASS?
When you arrive at the studio, check in with the front desk. The staff will help you sign in, give you a tour of the studio, and help you set up for class. During class, you will have the support of a skilled instructor every step of the way. Be sure to come well hydrated, bring your mat and a water bottle!
+ I’VE NEVER BEEN TO A YOGA CLASS AND FEEL A TAD BIT INTIMIDATED.
Trying new things can be scary and we’re glad you chose us for your first class! All our classes are filled with students in different stages of their yoga journey. When you walk in our doors, you will be warmly welcomed by our front desk staff and one of our highly skilled instructors will expertly guide you through your class.
+ I’M NOT FLEXIBLE, CAN I STILL PRACTICE YOGA?
We are glad you asked - YES! The most common misconception about yoga is that you must be flexible. With a regular practice, you’ll notice increased flexibility over time.
+ DO I NEED TO PRE-BOOK CLASSES?
We highly recommend booking your classes in advance. We limit the number of mat spaces and classes fill up quickly.
+ DO YOU HAVE CHANGING AND SHOWER FACILITIES?
Yes we do! We make it super easy to start your day with yoga, shower and get ready for what’s next … or come straight from work and change into your comfy yoga clothes.
+ ARE ALL OF YOUR CLASSES HEATED?
We have both heated and non-heated classes.
+ WHY DO YOU USE INFRARED HEAT?
Two reasons: 1) it’s clean…no forced air blowing on you 2) the therapeutic benefits are amazing…infrared heat directly penetrates your tissues, muscles, and joints, enabling increased flexibility, increased circulation, and a detoxifying sweat.
+ WHY ISN’T THERE THAT “YOGA FUNK” SMELL IN YOUR PRACTICE ROOMS?
Each studio room has its own HVAC unit that is continually refreshing room air with fresh outside air and studio rooms are completely purged of room air after each class.
+ WHAT IS YOUR LATE CANCEL | NO SHOW | LATE ARRIVAL POLICY?
Thanks so much for asking! Our class cancelation policy is aimed to be a preventative measure rather than a penalty. As a boutique studio offering small class sizes, demand for mat spaces is very high. Late cancels and no-shows prevent other guests from practicing and late arrivals are disruptive to fellow yogis and to your teacher.
LATE CANCEL | NO SHOW | LATE ARRIVAL POLICY EFFECTIVE MONDAY FEBRUARY 7, 2022
o The late cancel window is 2 hours prior to class start time. We understand that life happens and have reduced the late cancel window to allow for such occurrences. Two hours provides you enough time to cancel for last minute emergencies, while also allowing us enough time to offer your mat space to another guest.
o The late cancel/no show/late arrival fee will increase to $15. Be sure to cancel via, Mindbody, at least 2 hours in advance of class start to avoid the fee.
o The 5 minute grace period for late arrivals will be enforced. The 5 minute grace period is in place to ensure your safety and the safety of your fellow yogis. Missing the warm up can be dangerous and put you at risk of injury. It is disruptive to other yogis when someone arrives to class late.
o PLEASE NOTE: If you have not checked in by class start time, your mat space could be given to a yogi who is already waiting in the studio. The 5 minute grace period is not meant to be a 5 minute hold period.
Inviting Environment. Intentionally Excellent.
